Ten Ways to Improve Your Website Quickly

If your website is in need of a pick-me-up and time is an issue, here are ten swift and simple ways to give your site a lift. Implement just one a day and in ten days your website will be well on its way to becoming more efficient and user-friendly, allowing your visitors an easier way to find what they need from you, and not move on to someone else’s website.

Write an article about what you do and post it on your website. Then submit it to an online article directory, such as Ezine. Once there, you’ll be surprised at how your article will find its way around the world. I have found my articles posted on websites in numerous different countries, much to my surprise.
If you haven’t done so already, change your layout from tables to CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). Okay, this task might not be as swift as some of the others to accomplish, but it is well worth the effort and time. CSS layout provides much greater flexibility in your design, and is more easily crawled by search engines, in that there is not as much code for the spiders to wade through. Additionally, pages created with CSS layout will load faster, providing a much superior experience for your visitor.
Update your graphics. This means not only using fresh images, but making sure they are all optimized so that they load quickly. Also, make sure your graphics and images all have alt tags so that the text will be crawled by search engines. Search engines don’t see images, so these tags are very important.
Speaking of search engines……make sure your site is SEO friendly and that you’re up to speed on all the latest tips for optimizing your site.
Make sure your navigation is individual friendly. The last thing you want your visitor to do is click around 3 or 4 times and not find what they’re looking for. While you might be healthy to get around your site well enough, place yourself in your visitor’s shoes and go at it from their perspective. Envision that you’re not that familiar with what you’re selling and you have no intent where to go. If it takes too long for a visitor to find what they want, they will go somewhere else.
Check your site for broken links. There is nothing more frustrating to me then finally finding what I want and clicking on the link and the dreaded “Page not found” error message appears! I will swiftly just find another site to go to, as will most people.
Use white space to your advantage. Just because you have an empty spot on your page, doesn’t mea n that it has to be filled up with meaningless stuff. Less IS more, in so many cases, so don’t ruin a good thing. Make your content count. The more your visitor has to wade through to find what they want, the higher the chances of them leaving.
Put client testimonials on your site. People love reading about how awesome you are to work with, so give them what they want!
Add an “About Us” page, if you don’t already have one. It’s okay to get a tiny individualized with your customers and let them know that you’re a real mortal with a story.
Get into Social Media and blogging. A Facebook Fan page is a great way to keep in touch with your clients by offering them tiny tidbits of help and information on a regular basis. Facebook is a great networking tool and a definite quality to any business trying to establish a presence on the internet. A huge part of Social Media includes blogging, so don’t ignore this aspect. Blogs provi

Professional Website Design – 7 Tips to Increase ECommerce

What exactly makes a professional website layout increase business? The short answer is clean, easy and visible to the world. It boils down to these 7 basic tips that each business website should adhere.

1. Say the benefits your business has to offer, but make it short and to the point. This is your “unique selling proposition”. It should be said clearly and visibly. Don’t clutter your site with useless text or graphics.

2. Select your font carefully and use up to two similar font families -at most. One of the worst things I see on the world wide web is those sites with twenty different fonts of all sizes and colors. That screams, “Cheesy income letter – Avoid!”

3. Use graphics and/or pictures that help sell the products. Custom graphics are best. If you don’t design graphics you could outsource them.

4. A professional web site design is individual friendly. This means easy navigation. Visitors should be healthy find exactly what they’re looking for as swiftly as possible. If not, you lose the customers’ attention and they move on to a competitor’s site.

5. A professional website should be cross browser compatible. I always make it a point to check that my web sites look and function right in all the dominant browsers such as Firefox, World wide web Explorer, Safari, Netscape, Chrome, Opera, etc.

6. Mobile device compatibility is also very important in web site design. Many people these days use their iPhone or iPod to browse the internet. These mobile devices do not support Flash. If your site is built using Flash with no alternate content, your site can't be viewed. Potential business, lost. Flash web pages should be used sparingly and always have alternate content, which brings us to the next tip.

7. Don’t build a website solely on Flash for two good reasons. First, Google doesn’t like 100% Flash websites because they can’t see Flash content. It might look great, but if you’re trying to rank for Google search terms, you’ll have a really hard time. Second, Flash sites take a while to load. There is still a massive market of people with slow connections. Instead of waiting, waiting, waiting, they’ll lose interest before your website even loads.

Bottom line is – keep it simple, make it visible. Professional website designs are clean, easy and visible to the world. That’s the key to noticeably increase e-commerce.
